The Leon Levine Foundation Pledges $200,000 to Men's Shelter of Charlotte

This is an excerpt from a press release issued today by the Men's Shelter of Charlotte:

The campaign to raise an additional $1 million dollars in operating expenses for the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte got off to a great start as The Leon Levine Foundation pledged $100,000 a year for two years. After meeting with Carson Dean, Executive Director of the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, the foundation staff was impressed with the plan to provide more beds for homeless men. “What strikes me is the deliberate and strategic plan to first bring men in off the streets, and ultimately improve their lives so that they can return to being productive members of our society,” says Leon Levine.

On July 1, 2010, the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte kicked off a campaign to raise an extra $1 million dollars to sustain 500 year round shelter beds for homeless men and to provide the case management services to move them into housing. “Our ultimate goal is to end homelessness in Charlotte,” says Dean. “We have to start by providing enough beds to shelter the large population of homeless men. Only then can we engage them in services that will move them beyond homelessness.”

The Leon Levine Foundation says they are proud to be a part of this innovative fundraising effort and the energy the Shelter is bringing to addressing the growing needs of the homeless population in our community. “We are excited that the Men’s Shelter is so committed to addressing the problems of our most vulnerable citizens. We are pleased to be a partner in the effort to change the way we serve the homeless population in Charlotte,” said Leon Levine.
