Uptown Shelter receives $96k cut from United Way
On Wednesday, June 24th the Charlotte Observer reported on the front page that Uptown Shelter received a 12.9% reduction from the previous year totaling $28,587. This is only partly true. The United Way provides funding to four components at Uptown Shelter. Our emergency services did receive a $28k cut. However, our substance abuse, mental health, and transitional support components were also cut. In total, Uptown Shelter's United Way funding was cut $96,646 or 27.5%! I've had several people congratulate me on being cut only 19% and I just wanted to set the record straight.
