Thanks to UNCC CCANN
The Community Change and Action Network for Non-Profit Organizations project (CCANN) at UNC Charlotte selected Uptown Shelter as its first CCANN Grant recipient. On Friday, May 1, I was joined by Uptown Shelter Board Member Sue Marchetti and Development Director Melinda Dutcher to receive a check for $7,500 from Dr. Dennis Long, Chair of the Social Work Department at UNCC. Also involved in the presentation was Megan Gandy, Graduate Assistant to the 2009 CCANN Project an Dr. Lori Thomas, Assistant Professor in the Social Work Department. A large number of students took time out from the busy schedule as classes were ending to attend the presentation ceremony. Many thanks to the students and faculty who determined that Uptown Shelter exemplified what they were looking for in their inaugural grant recipient. This grant will go a long way towards our mission of helping homeless men, particularly during this tough economic period.
